DAY 03 & 04 – PARIS TO SWISS ALPS

The village of Lauterbrunnen is a magnificent place in itself, our accommodation for the next two nights is at the camping ground in twin share cabins. On arrival at out campsite we are surrounded by at least five 300 metre or so high waterfalls cascading over the cliffs that surround the entire town located within a valley.

DAY 05 – SWISS ALPS TO AVIGNON

Today was a long day on the bus so we didn’t make it to Avignon until late, tonight dinner wasn’t included so it was up to us to fend for ourselves tonight. On arrival we checked into our accommodation, a hostel directly opposite the old town on the bank of the river, prime location, not the best facilities but it was after all only for one night.

DAY 06 & 07 – AVIGNON TO BARCELONA

On arrival in Barcelona we went straight into a driving tour to check out the main sights of the city, our first stop was Sagrada Familia a church in the centre of town that was originally meant to be under construction for 200 years and is still being constructed to this day. Personally before coming to the city and seeing pictures of this building I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen, however now having seen it up close and personal… that opinion remains the same.

DAY 08 & 09 – BARCELONA TO NICE

On our arrival into Nice our first stop is a Perfumery where we get a tour of the facilities and a run down on how the whole place operates. Of course it wouldn’t be complete without a huge shop at the end with them trying to convince us that it’s so cheap to buy their products there as opposed to buying them in the shop. At this point I went and stood outside, if anyone tries to make a blatantly obvious sales spiel to me I instantly shut down and walk away.

DAY 10 & 11 – NICE TO VENICE

This morning we depart France and head for Italy, Venice is a complex place to navigate, our tour leader showed us around some of the alley ways and pointed out features so we would find it easy to find our way back to the people mover at the end of the day. This didn’t really help at all, most people still ended up getting lost including us, we eventually found our way back after discovering we were on the opposite side of the city with some help from the locals.

DAY 12 & 13 – VENICE TO FLORENCE

After lunch (which will come back to haunt me soon) we went and looked around Pisa, its tower and the many many tourist trap stalls surrounding the monument. Everywhere you go someone is trying to sell you something from dodgy sunglasses to dodgy anything. What I found amazing was the amount of stalls selling Simpsons merchandise from characters with the leaning tower to just plain Simpsons stuff that made no sense being there, even bottles of Duff Beer.

DAY 14 & 15 – FLORENCE TO ROME

On arrival into Rome we basically checked into our camping site, dumped all our stuff and headed back to the coach so we could be dropped off for our walking tour of Rome that would last for about three hours. The walking tour is that extensive, by the end of it we had just about seen all the main attractions of Rome making our free day tomorrow a breeze to find anything we want to go back to see.

DAY 26 – KAVALA TO GALLIPOLI

After crossing the border it was straight off to Gallipoli, before heading over to the memorial site we picked up our local guide who took us around to all the significant monuments and graves around the peninsula. In Turkey you must use local guides, the Topdeck crew are not allowed to guide us around any site in the country.

DAY 27 TO 29 – GALLIPOLI TO ISTANBUL

On arrival into the city itself our guide met the coach, he boarded and helped navigate the city as we headed to our hotel. The coach had to navigate narrow roads, once again a credit to our awesome driver Deans, the roads are blocked off by electronically operated bollards, these roads look like they are are usually reserved for just pedestrian traffic.
